SWOON, the studio - THE GATHERING ISSUE |
We’re smitten with designing dining rooms. |
In our “eat on the go” culture, there’s nothing more old school and, well, nourishing (pun intended) than gathering for a meal around the table with family and friends. Herewith are a few of our favorite spaces to eat, drink, and partake in some merrymaking. |

Perched atop iconic fashion emporium Forty Five Ten, Mirador is the go-to spot in Dallas for chic meals and stylish special occasions. |
In reimagining Mirador, the studio paid homage to the original clean-lined architecture of the Forty Five Ten building while celebrating the room’s vantage point as an airy, light-filled respite perched above the bustling streets of downtown Dallas. To create balance with the handsome lines and materials of the building, we drew inspiration from the Vienna Secession’s Wiener Werkstätte and its use of curving lines, references to plants and nature, and desire to create a “total art” that unified painting, architecture, and the decorative arts. |

We started by anchoring the main dining room with a curved bar crafted of Mappa burl wood, nickel, and antiqued mirror, and an elegant two-sided burl wood and mohair banquette. Ethereal silk Woka sconces and two large-scale paintings by artist Sam Falls featuring vegetation from his travels flank the space, adding texture and warmth. |
| Framed by a series of hand-stitched, naturally dyed linen and silk panels commissioned from Copenhagen-based artist Freja Løwe, the atrium lounge and private salon is a celebration of art and nature. Just beyond the panels, guests encounter a towering tree and a collection of lush foliage under a large skylight, creating the feeling of a verdant urban oasis. |
| The result is a dreamy, elegantly organic space perfect for soulful gatherings. |

CRAFTING SPACES WITH SCENT |
Scents are powerful and can create a profound sense of place. |
| | They are a natural extension of the brand storytelling and interiors we design for our clients. Our process begins with delving into every aspect of the concept and translating it into unique scent notes. We collaborate with a Brooklyn-based fragrance atelier renowned for creating custom scents for brands like Opening Ceremony, Rodarte, Net-A-Porter, A24, and Kinfolk. They excel at capturing not just plant and flower essences but also moods and melodies based on our guidance. |

Together, our team meticulously crafts each top, middle, and base note, ensuring that when you enter a space we’ve created, you immediately grasp our design intent. |

A wink, a nod, a whisper, a hint — subtle bits of playful wit and humor were woven throughout our holistic branding and interior redesign of the Vanderbilt mansion in downtown Newport, Rhode Island. |

It was a tremendous honor to reimagine this piece of American history. Studying colonial styles, furniture, and history was an incredibly inspiring creative stretch (and we had so much fun doing it). From working with artist Maxine Helfman to create a bespoke photo collection to sourcing vintage brass seashells and sea life as reserved signs and including a dash of graffiti on the fine dining plates, we found ways throughout the property to be at once rich, lovely, and playful. |

Whether it’s a casual dinner or a holiday feast, we curate elevated, beautifully designed items for everyday use. Why reserve special pieces for rare occasions? This season, we’re excited about wavy plates, unique found vessels, and vintage patina silver in our table settings. |
